Removal of Contaminants of Emerging Concern from Wastewater Using an Integrated Column System Containing Zero Valent Iron Nanoparticles

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and endocrine disruptors (EDCs) are among the most important categories of contaminants emerging concern (CECs), many advanced technologies have been developed for their elimination from water wastewater, including nano-zero valent iron (nZVI). This study investigates performance nZVI synthesized green tea extracts incorporated into a cationic resin (R-nFe) in removal four selected NSAIDs, namely ibuprofen (IBU), naproxen (NPX), diclofenac (DCF), ketoprofen (KFN), an EDC, bisphenol A (BPA). Column experiments were conducted to evaluate effect various operating parameters, initial CECs concentration, contact time, pH, addition, dose sodium persulfate (PS). To authors’ knowledge, this is first time that environmentally friendly produced has combined with PS column wastewater. With 2.2 min, = 1 mM, influent pH 3.5, 27–72% IBU, 70–99% NPX, 70–95% DCF, 28–50% KFN, 61–91% BPA removed during 12-day operation system, while concentration each substance was 5 μg/L. Therefore, it anticipated proposed system could be promising post-treatment technology
